Advantages and Disadvantages of Using Glossy Monitors

A glossy monitor is usually an electronically touch-sensitive display with a high-gloss glossy surface. In some light environments (especially darkened rooms) glossy screens offer better contrast ratio and color intensity than non-glare screens. However, the main disadvantage of such screens is their tendency to shine any light, leading to an unwanted glare. In addition, they tend to be flimsy on the edges where flex cables or wire connections come into contact with the screen. Even if the screen is protected by a crystal or other buffer, the sharp edge still makes it possible for a finger to graze against the screen, which can lead to screen damage.

Some manufacturers have introduced anti-glare screens to their monitors. These are special anti-glare screens that reduce the amount of light that reflects from the monitor. These screens reduce glare and can also make the colors more vibrant, especially when used with bright or over-glow displays. However, some users still find the disadvantages of anti-glare screens overwhelming, particularly because some models only accommodate one or two input types, which limits their functional capabilities.

Some users prefer screen protectors instead of screen protectors. An ideal choice for this user would be a rubbery or chamois-type material for his monitor. Screen protectors prevent scratches on the monitor while also serving as a kind of shield to the screen from debris and dust. Some screen protectors also prevent the display from being overly bright or dull. However, some high-gloss models of monitors use a special anti-glare coating which is almost identical to the anti-glare shielding on cell phones and computers. This type of coating is not only slightly more expensive than ordinary glass screen protectors, but it is also thicker and might not be susceptible to scratches and scuff marks.

There are also some drawbacks to using glossy screens. First, they have a tendency to glitter if not properly cleaned. When cleaning the monitor, do not rub too hard; do not scrape or wipe the screen with your finger. You must also take care not to leave the monitor lopsided or jutting forward, as this could also damage the screen. If you are planning to display photos on your computer, you should take care not to put too much weight on the keyboard and touchpads.

Glittery monitors also require a higher price. Although prices for these monitors are gradually declining in the market today, some stores still charge an extra $50 or more for these models. You might also be required to use special cleaning solutions and monitors accessories in order to keep them looking like new. It is also a disadvantage that the glossy material may eventually scratch. In addition, the anti-glare layer on some screens can also cause eyestrain or even headaches when used for long periods.

A lot of people prefer to use monitor protectors in order to protect their LCD monitors. There are actually various types of protector available in the market. The most popular are screen guards and mounts. Monitor protectors differ from those used for TV sets or laptop screens because they are designed to be used on monitors instead of TV screens. Monitor protectors are generally thinner than those used for computer monitors and are easy to use.
